Background of the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language
The Parliamentary Committee on Official Language was constituted in 1976 under the Official Languages Act, 1963.It is a high-powered parliamentary committee. It comprises 30 Members of Parliament—20 from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha.
The Hon'ble Home Minister is the Chairman of this committee. The committee has been divided into three sub-committees to monitor the progress of official language work.
The main objective of the committee is to review the progress of the use of Hindi the official languag in government operations and to inspect various ministries and offices.
